Self-development for me is the act of constantly improving your value so that you can continually be in demand.
Self-development is for me not just a topic but a practice that I am passionate about because I believe that it is the most single ingredient that sets the successful apart from the unsuccessful.
Where I am from, as children we were made to believe that if you started something, and it failed, some witch or wizard from your family or circle of friends whom you told your plans were envious, so they destroyed your plans with their witchcraft power. So many people, myself inclusive lived life in fear and resigning ourselves to fate, like it was something we had no control over.
As I got older, I began to ask questions, I began to learn new things. I wanted to find a way out of the vicious cycle.
This is how self-development started for me. I observed that most people who start a business, start just to make some money to get by, and once they start raking in some little profit, they become lazy to improve on their services or products, soon they fall out of business when competition comes in.
Relationships when they start off are usually fun and beautiful, the partners can’t seem to get enough of each other, but after a while, if the partners stop giving their all to the growth of their relationship, things start falling apart…
Starting is not enough. I know you have heard the popular saying, “it’s not he who starts first but he who remains in the race when the going gets tough, and most importantly, he who finishes.”
If you want to be ahead, you must self-develop, you must grow every single day. If you want to constantly enjoy the sweetness of your relationships, you must come up everyday with ways to spice it up.
I believe that every single one of us can reach our fullest potential if we commit ourselves to daily improvement.
